TRACK-TBI + QuesGen

A decade of life-changing database management—supporting one of the world’s largest studies on long-term traumatic brain injury outcomes.

Overview

TRACK-TBI partnered with QuesGen to deliver a secure, web-based data management and research platform capable of handling complex, long-running TBI research. The collaboration spans more than 10 years and supports a large, multi-site effort to better understand long-term impacts of traumatic brain injury.

What QuesGen did
Built an integrated TBI data management and research platform, developed eCRFs for multiple protocols, provided secure web-based systems and storage, and supported validation/curation to improve data integrity.

Focus
Complex longitudinal TBI datasets

TRACK-TBI’s mission: build a fully integrated “TBI Information Commons” to connect researchers and enable discovery of new diagnostic and prognostic markers, refine outcomes, and support clinical trial readiness.

The challenge

TBI research becomes complex fast: many influencing factors, many data points, and long follow-up periods are required to accurately capture outcomes and study patterns over time. TRACK-TBI needed a platform that could handle complexity without creating an administrative burden.

  • Complex datasets that don’t fit simple data structures
  • Longitudinal follow-up and multiple cohorts/protocols
  • Tight grant timelines requiring fast deployment
  • High expectations for usability and data integrity
What QuesGen delivered
Flexible data model
Built to support complex structures and evolve over time.
Rapid deployment
Implemented quickly under tight “go-grant” timelines.
Validation + curation
Centralized controls to improve integrity and usability of data.
High-touch support
Service model built around speed and deep study understanding.
“They’re more than a database… they really care.”
— Dr. Geoffrey T. Manley, MD, PhD

Project goals

TRACK-TBI’s goals focus on improving classification, outcomes measurement, and clinical trial readiness—while building a legacy dataset and tools to accelerate discovery.

Improve TBI classification
Refine taxonomy to support targeted clinical treatment trials.
Improve outcome assessments
Enable better endpoints so trials can be smaller, faster, and less expensive.
Understand health + economic impact
Study the implications of mild TBI patient disposition over time.
Build a legacy database
Provide analytic tools and resources to support broader TBI research.
Less admin work, more science
TRACK-TBI needed a partner who could deliver quickly and reliably—so researchers could stay focused on science rather than platform friction.

Built for evolving protocols and cohorts

TRACK-TBI includes varied protocols across cohorts, with consistent expectations for accuracy and dependable data capture. Over time, the QuesGen platform has also evolved, informed by a decade of learning and multiple related efforts.

Why this matters
  • Complex data structures supported without forcing “square-peg” workflows
  • Long-running operational stability for observational research
  • Consistency across sites with centralized validation and curation
